Paternity

Paternity Disputes | Fathers or Mothers | DNA Tests | Certificates of Parentage

Whether you are the mother or the father of a child out of wedlock, a lot can be at stake based on the paternity of a minor. As the father, you may obtain parenting-time rights or even custody, but you may also incur a child support obligation. As the mother, you may be entitled to child support, health insurance and other benefits, but you may also have to allow the father reasonable parenting time. Don’t deal with a paternity determination on your own. You want an experienced and knowledgeable lawyer to protect your rights. I can help.

At the Law Offices of Joseph P. Howard, in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, I represent people throughout Camden County, Cherry Hill and the greater Philadelphia area, Burlington County, Gloucester County, Salem County and Atlantic County. I bring more than 30 years of legal experience to men and women facing family law challenges, including parties to a paternity dispute. Because of my many years in practice, I have a thorough understanding of the laws and procedures, as well as the strategies to get the outcome you want.

My Paternity Dispute Practice

In New Jersey, the paternity (identity of the father) of a child can be established in a number of ways. If you sign a Certificate of Parentage (COP), you will legally be considered the father. Paternity can also be established through DNA testing.

I represent parties on either side of a paternity dispute. I will help you take the most effective steps to establish or refute paternity, and I will then help you obtain all other benefits to which you are entitled, should paternity be established. I will prepare and file all required documents throughout the process, and will be your advocate in all hearings or proceedings.

At the office of attorney Joseph P. Howard, I have fought for the rights of men and women in Camden County, Burlington County, Gloucester County, Salem County and Atlantic County, Voorhees, Cherry Hill and the greater Philadelphia area for more than 30 years. With more than three decades of legal experience handling legal disputes, including divorce and family law matters, I have comprehensive knowledge of the laws and procedures governing divorce and family law, including requests for modification.
